The involvement of faculty in advising has been proven to improve both retention and student satisfaction. In this study two-thirds of the marketing educators surveyed were directly involved in academic advising. While faculty basically had positive attitudes towards advising, they often were provided neither the resources nor the motivation to perform the service effectively. Significant differences were found between small vs large schools, private vs public institutions, and between AACSB vs non-AACSB accredited institutions. The most extreme differences of opinions about advising, however, were found between faculty at teaching- vs research-oriented institutions.
