Why the study?
Vascular cognitive impairment significantly impacts elderly health worldwide and is the second leading cause of cognitive impairment in China.
This article provides a comprehensive review of the pathophysiological mechanisms, neuroimaging, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies for vascular cognitive impairment.
Review summarizes VCI advances; leaves open validation of biomarkers and therapies in prospective trials.
Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) is a cognitive dysfunction caused by cerebrovascular disease and its related risk factors, which has a significant impact on the health and quality of life of the elderly worldwide, and has become the second most common cause of cognitive impairment after Alzheimer’s disease, especially among people aged 60 years and above in China.
