Geographers and cartographers, in their rush to implement computer cartographic systems, have tended to overlook problems of human error. Psychological, physiological, and logical errors seriously affect representations of naturally occurring lines such as rivers and coasts. Attempts must be made to understand and eliminate or reduce such errors because the man-machine interface will continue in the foreseeable future.
