Does isoprenaline affect haemodynamics in patients following aortic valve homograft replacement?
This study aims to clarify the haemodynamic action of isoprenaline following aortic valve replacement.
Isoprenaline haemodynamics after AVR remain undefined; Level 5 data leave open need for prospective physiologic trials.
Isopropylnoradrenaline sulphate (isoprenaline) is a sympathomimetic drug having an action predom- inantly on the ,B-receptors of the sympathetic system It has been shown in normal man to have positive inotropic and chrono- tropic actions on the myocardium, producing in- creases in heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output (Weissler, Leonard, and Warren, 1959). The drug is used extensively following heart oper- ations, and this investigation is an attempt to clarify its action following aortic valve replacement.
