Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is a rare type of indolent B-cell leukemia comprising approximately 2% of all lymphoid leukemias. 1 Leukemic cells typically infiltrate the bone marrow and spleen, and may also be found in the liver and lymph nodes. Clinically, HCL is characterized by symptoms of fatigue and weakness, and most patients will present with splenomegaly (symptomatic or asymptomatic) and/or hepatomegaly, pancytopenia, and uncommonly peripheral lymphadenopathy. 2 Additionally, patients may also present with recurrent opportunistic infections.
