Steric effects on mesomerism: XVIII). Steric inhibition of the mesomerism in aromatic amines with bulky N‐alkyl groups of compact structure: Nitrosation and coupling of the four N‐methyl‐N‐butylanilines

Nitrosation and coupling experiments with the four N‐methyl‐N‐butyl‐anilines are described. N‐methyl‐N‐ tert .butylaniline cannot be nitrosated and reacts only very slowly with actively coupling diazonium salts.
