Vasodilator drugs were given to mice with established isologous tumors. Tumor blood flow was determined with the thermal circulation index and a “thermostromuhr;” oxygen concentration was measured with a platinum microelectrode and a polarograph. The animals were given chlorpromazine, isoproterenol or allowed to breathe at one atm of pressure, amyl nitrite in air or 100% oxygen. The drugs all decreased tumor blood flow and oxygen tension, heart rate and rectal temperature. Their administration during radiotherapy or chemotherapy for the treatment of tumors is therefore unlikely to be of value.
