To characterize the distribution of CYP2C19 genetic polymorphisms and drug metabolizer phenotypes in an ethnic Hakka population in southern China.
Genotyped 6,686 unrelated hospitalized participants (aged 17–98 years) of self-reported Hakka ancestry in southern China using a gene chip platform.
Observed allele frequencies were CYP2C19*1 at 64.33%, *2 at 31.06%, and *3 at 4.61%, with predominant genotypes being *1/*1 (41.73%) and *1/*2 (39.65%).
Identified metabolizer phenotypes were 41.73% extensive metabolizers, 45.21% intermediate metabolizers, and 13.06% poor metabolizers, closely matching distributions reported in broader Asian populations.
