The composition dependence of the thermal diffusion factor has been studied for the CO-CH 3 Cl and CO 2 -CH 3 Cl systems at 366·7 and 390·6 °K respectively and the values have been compared with those obtained from the Chapman-Enskog theory and the recent theory of Monchick, Munn and Mason. The agreement between the Chapman-Enskog theory and experiment for the CO-CH 3 Cl system is excellent, while that for the CO 2 -CH 3 Cl system is poor. The quantitative values obtained for the thermal diffusion factor according to the theory of Monchick, Munn and Mason are worse for both systems, although it predicts the qualitative nature of the curves in good agreement with the experimental results.
