Evaluates gamma-ray production cross-sections from fission neutrons, indicating effective measurement techniques.
In order to perform chemical analysis with the FaNGaS instrument operated at the MLZ facility, the partial gamma-ray production cross-sections for (n, n´γ) reactions with fission neutrons were evaluated from the relative intensities of the gamma lines listed in the “Atlas of Gamma-rays from Inelastic Scattering of Reactor Fast Neutrons” published in 1978 by Demidov et al. The 846-keV gamma-ray of the 56 Fe(n, n´γ) 56 Fe reaction was used as reference with the fission-spectrum averaged production cross section of 586 ± 41 mb measured with FaNGaS. Additionally, the detection limits were estimated for a measurement time of 12 h.
