The temperature dependence of the diffusion of cationic dyes in polyacrylonitrile fibers has been examined over a wide range of temperatures. The results were found to accord well with a free volume model of dye diffusion. Apparent activation energies increased with decreasing temperature above the glass transition temperature T g , and became extremely high near T g . The course of the dependence could be described by a relation of the form of the Williams, Landel, and Ferry equation.
