Polyurethane foams have been studied as drug carrier matrixes for sustained delivery application. The drugs used in the investigation were the specific antituberculous drug isoniazid, the antibiotic rifampicin, and the local anaesthetic novocain. The release of the drugs into model biological media was studied by UV spectroscopy. It has been found that drug release occurs in accordance with first‐order kinetics. The possibility of application of drug delivery systems for treatment of tuberculosis and haemorrhoids has been shown by some medical‐biological tests.
