Synopsis Increasing the concentration of chelating agent in a nutrient medium decreased the capacity of roots to absorb Fe. Of 11 plant species tested, growth was impeded sharply in 6 species when the molar concentration of chelating agent exceeded that of Fe. Other plant species absorbed Fe at higher chelating agent concentrations. Plant species differed also in their capacity to absorb Fe relative to Cu and Mn.
