Certain well known properties of toroidal magnetohydrostatic equilibria with scalar pressure are shown to carry over to a class of equilibria with tensor pressure including openended equilibria with free ends. This class is characterized by the existence of a particular family of surfaces which, because of their analogy to the pressure surfaces of equilibria with scalar pressure, are called “generalized pressure surfaces.”
