The normal anatomical structures identified on rectilinear scans made with 99mTc-Sn-46-chain polyphosphate(Tc-PP) are discussed. Vastly improved resolution obtained by use of 99mTc-PP permits identification of structures not normally seen on scans made with 85Sr, 87mSr, and 18F, e.g., pedicles and∕or facets of dorsal vertebrae, spinous processes of lumbar vertebrae, ischium, scapula, sternum, ends of ribs, and ends of long bones. Extreme attention to patient positioning and instrumentation technique are required to produce a satisfactory bone scan with Tc-PP, free of interpretive error. New skills are required to interpret these scans, irrespective of past experiences in the interpretation of rectilinear scans made with other agents.
