Abstract 1. A manganous manganite with a very low degree of disorder is described with the composition: 4 MnO 2 , Mn(OH) 2 , 2H 2 O. It is formed by recrystallisation of dry 3 MnO 2 , Mn(OH) 2 , xH 2 O, or in direct preparation by oxydation of Mn(OH) 2 with oxygen in alkaline solution. The X‐ray diffraction pattern obtained with the powder method of Debye‐Scherrer shows sharp lines. The possible hexagonal indication leads to a double‐layer structure.
