Achondroplasia, one of osteochondrodysplasia, is genetically determined autosomal dominant disease, which is the cause of dwarfism. Among the methods, that are available for acceleration of growth in patients with chondrodystrophy mentioned distraction osteogenesis (Ilizarov method) and growth hormone therapy. In patients with achondroplasia the tests for growth hormone deficiency are recommended. When the somatotropic hypopituitarism is proved, it is advisable to implement substitution therapy.
