The [C 4 H 8 O] +˙ ion in the mass spectrum of 1‐hepten‐3‐ol is shown to be {article}{empty}{document}CH₃ CH₂ C(= O⁺ H) C. H₂{document} by collisional activation spectra, appearance energies and comparison of the ratios of the intensities of metastable decompositions. [C 4 H 8 O] +˙ appears to be formed by rearrangement of ionized 1‐hepten‐3‐ol to {article}{empty}{document}CH₃ C. HC(= O⁺ H)CH₂ CH₂ CH₂ CH₃{document} followed by γ‐hydrogen rearrangement‐β‐cleavage.
