A meta-analysis of published research enabled dressing efficacy to be estimated. Comparisons showed greater efficacy of hydrocolloid dressings but failed to confirm advantages of other advanced dressings compared with conventional ones. Local care of pressure ulcers is an essential aspect of their treatment. However, and despite great progress in knowledge of the biology of healing, the local management of pressure ulcers is not standardised, nor are there definitive data on the best way to treat them.
