Review explores how Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies reshape peace dynamics across Africa, highlighting emerging digital pathways and challenges for regional peacebuilding.
This special issue investigates the repercussions of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for peace in Africa. What does peace mean in this new environment of profound technological and societal transformation? Does it make peace even more unattainable, or does it offer new opportunities for working towards peace? In this special issue, the contributors have cast the net widely, examining negative and positive notions of peace, as well as internal (African) and external (extra-continental) forces shaping peace on the continent. Following an overview of the existing literature on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and peace in Africa the article presents a series of questions framing the issues and then provides an overview of the contributions to the special issue, followed by a summary of the main points of the issue and the implications of these ‘digital pathways to peace in Africa’.
