Narrative review reveals that fructosamine-to-HbA1c calculators lack clinical validation, indicating that converted values require cautious interpretation alongside continuous glucose monitoring.
Fructosamine is a glycated serum protein marker that reflects average glycemia over the prior 2-3 weeks and is useful when HbA1c is unreliable due to altered red blood cell turnover or hemoglobin variants. As fructosamine lacks standardized targets, this fructosamine to HbA1c calculator may be useful to contextualize fructosamine readings. However, this calculator has not been validated and is not recommended for use by any major guidelines. Therefore fructosamine-derived HbA1c estimates should be interpreted cautiously and used alongside complementary measures of glycemic assessment such as self-monitored glucose or continuous glucose monitoring.
