As a material deeply rooted in Eastern cultural traditions – particularly in China and Japan – round-bamboo furniture carries significant cultural value and holds an important position in traditional craftsmanship. China boasts abundant bamboo resources. In recent years, with the evolution of public aesthetic preferences and heightened environmental awareness, demand for round-bamboo furniture has surged. However, the industry remains predominantly dependent on traditional workshop-based production, featuring low efficiency that struggles to meet growing market needs. Meanwhile, in-depth and systematic research on this field is scarce, and there is a lack of comprehensive coverage of the round-bamboo-furniture industry. To fully understand the current round-bamboo-furniture industry, this study examined the regional distribution and material characteristics of round-bamboo furnitures, summarizing their correspondence with furniture forms. It provides a detailed account of the manufacturing process and distinctive techniques employed in round-bamboo-furniture production. It analyses the enterprise characteristics from production and sales channels, with characteristics of regional concentration, lagging production capacity, rapid online sales growth and strong market demand. Finally, targeted recommendations are proposed, thereby providing practical guidance for the high-quality transformation, technological upgrading of China’s round-bamboo-furniture sector.
