Key result
CABG is associated with ~51% lower 30-day MACCE risk versus PCI in diabetic ACS.
Why the study?
Does CABG reduce MACCE compared to PCI in diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes?

Does CABG reduce MACCE compared to PCI in diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes?
In a real-world cohort of diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease, CABG was associated with a lower rate of MACCE compared to PCI, particularly in those presenting with acute coronary syndromes.

Abel et al. (2017) conducted a cohort in Diabetes mellitus and multivessel coronary artery disease (n=4,661). Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) vs. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents was evaluated on Major adverse cardiac or cerebrovascular events (MACCE), a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and nonfatal stroke (OR 0.49, 95% CI 0.34-0.71). In diabetic patients with multivessel coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes, CABG was associated with a lower 30-day risk of MACCE compared to PCI (OR 0.49; 95% CI 0.34-0.71).
