Career classes have become a common way of helping large numbers of college students with career planning. It is possible that some individuals with personal‐emotional barriers to decision making receive little help from standard, information‐oriented versions of such classes. The assessment and treatment of possible contributors to career problems are proposed. Three diagnostic instruments that are especially suited to counseling practice are described. Strategies for incorporating assessment information into practice in career classes are offered.
