Survey reveals office environmental design and supportive workplace policies promote healthy behaviours among office workers, highlighting practical strategies for sustainable workplace wellness.
This study explores the influence of office environmental elements on healthy behaviours using the Comprehensive Action Determination Model (CADM). Based on a survey of 1317 office workers in China, the focus is on how situational environmental factors, including office design, signage, and behavioural cues, influence healthy behaviours. The findings reveal that a comfortable office environment, characterized by features like attractive staircases and scenic exercise paths, along with convenient fitness facilities, plays a key role in encouraging healthy behaviours. Additionally, company health policies and flexible work arrangements significantly contribute to employees’ health-related choices. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating elements that promote positive attitudes and habits into office designs, offering evidence-based recommendations for urban planning and workplace management. The findings align with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (ensure healthy lives) and Goal 11 (make cities inclusive and sustainable), highlighting the role of health-promoting architectural design in achieving global sustainability objectives. The research provides practical insights for creating healthier, more sustainable work environments.
