Simulation study demonstrates high predictive accuracy for electrical grid stability using CatBoost, suggesting actionable insights for power grid optimization.
Our article introduces a novel simulation model based on CatBoost algorithm to make very high and interpretable predictions of power grid stability. The study aims at addressing shortcomings of current methods, such as scalability, inexplicability and computational inefficiency that inhibit its application in practice. The developed model uses the latest machine learning to analyze high-dimensional data and suggests practical insights based on the assessment of feature significance and interaction testing. Visualization techniques that are a suite such as 3D scatter and surface plots are what give this work a new dimension since they allow intuitive knowledge on grid stability dynamics. It demonstrated an accuracy of 93.95% and AUC-ROC of 0.99 that indicates that the model is strong in defining stable and unstable states. The most influential predictors were feature-based tau1, tau2 and tau4, which made useful suggestions about grid optimization.
