This review highlights the critical role of calcium-dependent signaling mechanisms in driving pathological cardiac hypertrophy, arrhythmogenesis, and heart failure.
This review considers the role of calcium ions in regulation of the specialized cardiomyocyte (CM) functions in heart diseases and disorders. It covers some issues of Ca 2+ -dependent signaling mechanisms that lead to pathological cardiac hypertrophy, arrhythmogenesis and heart failure. The authors pay special attention to the analysis of Ca 2+ -dependent molecular mechanisms resulting in remodeling of contractile proteins, apoptosis and pathological CM growth.
