Nurse educators have developed a variety of techniques for evaluating the clinical performance of nursing students. Emphasis has been on improving the validity and reliability of evaluations; however, in the process, intuition and judgment have been devalued. This article describes intuition and proposes objectives to foster understanding and development of intuitive thinking processes. Nurse educators are encouraged to develop intuitive thinking in themselves and their students and to value personal judgment in the evaluative process.
