We examine the role of the vector nature of optical waves on the memory effect. We show that unlike the situation for scalar waves, the time-reversed memory effect is not symmetric for polarizations which are arranged in a crossed configuration. It is also shown that including single scattering into the theory leads to a striking phenomenon—the appearance of a dip in the memory effect.
