Well-controlled diblock copolymers with polyalcohol segments were synthesized via the living cationic polymerization of Si-containing vinyl ethers by Et1.5AlCl1.5 in the presence of an added base. When an aqueous solution with a low viscosity at 20 °C was warmed only to 21 °C, physical gelation occurred quite sensitively, maintaining transparency. The characteristic features of the transition are the following: (1) gelation at low concentrations (≥3 wt %), (2) relatively stiff gel, and (3) high sensitivity and reversibility on heating and cooling.
