Indirect creation and annihilation probabilities are obtained for a Wannier‐Mott excition with arbitrary kinetic energy which interacts with longitudinal lattice vibrations (LO‐phonons). An analysis is made of the discrete and continuous spectra of the exciton intermediate (virtual) state contribution to these probabilities. These results are applied to the calculation of the two‐phonon resonance Raman scattering (RRS) cross‐section, which is directly proportional to Fröhlich's exciton—phonon coupling constant α exc . It is shown that the greatest contribution of intermediate states to the indirect hot‐exciton creation and annihilation probabilities is that one due to the continuous spectrum.
