Amide-functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) enhanced the sorption efficiency of trivalent f elements. Different isotherm models were employed to understand the mechanism. Sorption proceeded via physisorption, and confirmed IR spectroscopy. The Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectra of the Gd3+ sorbed on CNT also showed no perturbation on the local environment of Gd3+ on sorption, again revealing the physisorption. Analysis of the sorption kinetics through Lagergren’s first-order kinetics, intraparticle diffusion model, and pseudo-second-order kinetics revealed that the sorption kinetics followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Radiolytic stability of CNT-DHA was found to be satisfactory. Ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) was found to strip almost quantitatively.
