Froese, Charlotte Abstract Hartree-Fock radial functions are expanded in powers of Z-1 for all terms in the configurations 1s2, and 1s22s22p63131'. The off-diagonal energy parameters are included in the Hartree-Fock equations, and a criterion is derived for states in which these parameters lead to an inconsistency in the Z expansion. Zero-order mixing is applied to the configurations, and a generalized transition integral is defined for transitions between mixed states a and a'. Constants a, S1, and Si are determined so that `a, a' = has an appropriate Z expansion. The deviation of a from unity is a measure of the effect of zero-order mixing, whereas So - is mainly a measure of electron screening.
