It is known that PVC prepared in aldehyde show marked crystallinity. I MOTO proposed that a kind of π‐complex would be formed by the interaction between the π‐bond of the solvent molecule and a radical end of the propagating chain. To examine this assumption, some thirty compounds with π‐electrons has been applied as solvents. But the results obtained concluded that the assumption was still to be questioned. Of the solvents tested, dialkyl phosphites had some stereoregulating effect in the polymerization. PVC prepared in these solvents possessed the D 635 /D 690 ratio of 2.2–3.0, and gave a cloudy solution when dissolved in tetrahydrofuran.
