Summary The flowers of various Solanum species are characterized by lack of nectar and by an open flower with a central cone of pore-opening anthers. They are pollinated by pollen- collecting bees which vibrate the pollen out of the anthers (“buzz pollination”). The same flower type is found in other plant families and seems to characterize a specific pollination syndrome.
