Wintner has subsequently suggested that it should be possible to extend this result by requiring that the distribution function solving the problem have a spectrum contained in a preassigned set, a result which would show the well-known criteria for the various standard special momentum problems (Stieltjes, lerglotz, Hamburger, lausdorff in one or more dimensions) to be but particular cases of the general n-dimensional momentum problem mentioned above. The purpose of the present note is to carry out this extension. It turns out that this unified and more general treatment of all these momentum problems is by no means more complicated than the several individual treatments to be found in the literature for these special cases.
