We have used the technique of far-infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy to study the lattice dynamics of thin (60- to 3270-{}) films of rubidium iodide, potassium iodide, rubidium bromide, cesium iodide, and cesium bromide. The spectra provide information on the LO-phonon spectra as well as insight into the morphology of the thin-film samples.
