Nondestructive magnetic depth profiling with spin polarization of secondary electrons reveals a particular magnetic state within the outermost 5 {} of the Fe(100) surface. This state is the first step in reversed-domain nucleation and is best described as a very thin 90^∘{} [100] wall, which is forbidden in bulk Fe.
