A new self-consistent decoupling scheme is presented which extends the theory of Tahir Kheli and Elliott (1983) for tracer diffusion on lattices through the approximate solution of the many-body equations. The new scheme gives improved results for the case where the background is nearly static and is used to formulate a theory for multicomponent alloys. The results are the same as those conjectured by Tahir Kheli (1983 b) and tested by him against Monte Carlo simulation.
