Systematic echocardiography and heightened clinical suspicion are crucial to offer timely therapy for isolated left ventricular noncompaction, which may improve symptoms and decrease mortality.
Heightened clinical suspicion and systematic echocardiography are crucial for timely diagnosis and therapy of isolated left ventricular noncompaction.
May support echocardiography in suspected cardiomyopathy; leaves open prospective validation of outcome benefits.
Introduction Isolated left ventricular noncompaction (ILVNC) seems to be the result of the myocardium failing to compact during embryogenesis. During the past decade, considerably more cases have been identified and studied worldwide as a result of increasing clinical awareness of the condition and advances in imaging techniques . However, ILVNC remains a diagnostic challenge. Common echocardiographic diagnostic criteria that discriminate between normal and alternative pathology must be determined to unify the method of diagnosis by clinicians worldwide. These criteria should be based on some pathoanatomical validity. Conclusions Heightened clinical suspicion accompanied by systematic echocardiography is crucial to offer timely therapy, which may improve symptoms and decrease mortality.
