The author has studied the effect of di-interstitials on phonon dispersion curves in FCC metals. The calculated frequency shift of the transverse (100) phonon in Al shows resonance behaviour at wavevector zeta =0.1 ( nu =0.86 THz), a result corroborated from the local frequency spectrum of the di-interstitial. The calculation highlights the importance of di-interstitials and other small clusters in understanding the perturbed phonons in neutron-irradiated metals.
