The electronic structure and spectra of the polyacenes

This paper reports some self-consistent field molecular orbital calculations on the first nine members of the polyacene series. It is predicted that the lowest singlet band in the electronic spectrum will converge to a limit of about 18 000 vν in the higher members of the series. The charges and bond orders are given for the first five members of the series.
