For pt.I see ibid., vol.14, p.3227 (1981). The treatment of elastic scattering from atoms which was developed in the preceding paper is applied to helium and neon for incident electron energies of 100-500 eV. Charge cloud polarisation effects, which can triple the differential cross section at small scattering angles, are well described and the agreement with experimental cross sections is generally close to or within experimental error. Calculated total cross sections are also in good agreement with experimental values.
