Television Fictions around the World: Melodrama and Irony in Global Perspective

Th e book Watching Dallas, published in the 1980s studies the discussions on the reception of the american soap opera Dallas.Decades later, it seems appropriate to look at those years between the release of the book and the present moment and think about what has changed in television culture, especially referring to dramatic television series.Th e irony with which viewers see the soap operas since then in the United States and some melodramas produced and broadcasted in Asia are some of the points analyzed.
