Single crystals of the tubular structure [Ni(C8H22N4)](VO3)2·3H2O were prepared by interdiffusion and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other analyses. Crystal data: rhombohedral, R3̄, a = 14.4133(6) Å, α = 116.236(1)°, Z = 3. The neutral framework [Ni(C8H22N4)](VO3)2 is formed from tetrahedral VO3 chains and Ni[(C8H22N4)(H2O)2]2- octahedral cations. Water molecules occupy channels in the framework, and the compound can be dehydrated and rehydrated without destruction of the crystal lattice. The dehydrated structure is stable to ∼200 °C.
