Theoretical analysis evaluates pressure-induced changes in Szigeti effective ionic charges across various crystal lattices, clarifying chemical bonding dynamics under compression.
The pressure dependence of the Szigeti effective ionic charge of some rock salt, cesium chloride, and zinc-blende type crystals is evaluated from the pressure dependence of their long-wavelength optic phonon frequencies and the high- and low-frequency dielectric constants. Comparison is made with values predicted by indirect methods.
