Surface states on the clean-cleaved (110) surface of InP have been studied both theoretically and experimentally. The experimental approach was via angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. The theoretical calculations were performed by tight-binding and by self-consistent pseudopotential methods. The binding energy and dispersion associated with the phosphorus dangling-bond surface state is considered in detail. Charge-density contours of the various states are also presented.
