The WKB technique developed by Fejer and Yu to study the oblique echoes received by topside sounders near the plasma frequency is applied to investigate the upper hybrid resonance. A model is chosen (the magnetic field parallel to the gradient of electron density with satellite velocity of arbitrary direction) that permits us to find analytical expressions for the frequencies of the two Doppler-shifted received echoes and to show in a simple way their absence for fT>2fH. A numerical application illustrates the influence of the main parameters: reception time, electron temperature, gradient of electron density, and direction of satellite velocity.
