Inkjet printing (IJP) technology is an attractive alternative for producing OLEDs, due to its low-cost, large-area processing, and multicolor addressing capabilities. The problems associated with this technique (pinhole film structure, uneven surfaces) have been overcome by use of the hybrid IJP technique. Here this technique is demonstrated to produce controllable patterning of red-green-blue OLEDs. The LEDs comprise bilayer structures of red and green dopants inkjet-printed onto a film of the blue-emitting semiconducting polymer poly(9-vinylcarbazole), the latter serving as the hole-transport layer.
