Genotypes at the three loci PgmI, PgmII and PgmIII have been scored in adult Zoarces viviparus in samples from 30 localities in the North Sea, the Kattegat, the Danish Fjords, the Danish Belts, and the Baltic Sea. All populations were polymorphic at the PgmI and PgmII loci with a fairly constant gene frequency throughout the area of investigation. However, detailed investigation of the data reveal subtle but significant differentiations in gene frequency between the major geographical areas of occurrence of the fish. This conclusion is supported by analysis of the occurrence of ideomorphic alleles at the three loci.
